Savari’s vision is to make transportation predictive, safer and efficient. To bring this vision to reality, we are continuously innovating our solutions and technology in collaboration with various stakeholders, including departments of transportation, universities, automotive OEMs, and Tier-1 suppliers and software partnerships.
Savari is able to tie any kind of smartphone into the V2X ecosystem.
Our R&D team is developing and deploying innovative solutions in three ways:
1. Conducting tests in collaboration with chipset vendors and smartphone manufacturers on DSRC-equipped smartphones. The next generation of smartphones can transform any non-smart car into a connected car with the same capabilities as new model cars.
2. Beta testing the SmartCross application developed in collaboration with the USDOT, helping pedestrians (visually and mobility impaired) and bicyclists safely get preference on an intersection through their smartphone.
3. Testing existing safety applications, such as forward collision warning, intersection movement assist and blind spot warning on cellular-only connections. Although functionality, accuracy and timeliness would be compromised marginally, the applications would tie every non-smart car into the V2X ecosystem, as well as represent an increase to current safety applications.
In 2013, the USDOT released policy on automated vehicle development that classifies vehicles into five levels, ranging from level of automation 0 to 4, where 3 stands for “Limited Self-Driving Automation” and 4 stands for “Full Self-Driving Automation.”
Tech companies (Uber, Google, Zoox and Navya) and some car makers (GM, Audi, Tesla) are working hard to bring self-driving vehicles to life. The first cars are expected to be on the road in five to seven years.
According to Morgan Stanley, self-driving cars will positively contribute to the U.S. economy to the tune of about $1.3 trillion annually.
But how do cars actually drive themselves? They use sensors such as cameras, Lidar and V2X, with the latter supplied by Savari. Both cameras and Lidar over the past years have become mainstream and are being included by most car manufacturers in their new and always more automated cars. V2X complements this picture by eliminating the need for line of sight, and instead providing 360-degree coverage with more than a one mile of radius and centimeter-level accuracy. Savari’s V2X technology strengthens and compliments the existing suite of sensors.
In various test beds all over the world, Savari is working to advance this technology and make it ready for the self-driving car revolution.
Savari is developing a backend cloud solution to support its integrated V2X solutions and growing portfolio of applications.
The cloud solution enables Savari to analyze all incoming data from its proprietary devices and other DSRC and cellular V2X devices and applications. The solution then broadcasts the information back to cars in real time, with the goal of steering traffic to increase safety and efficiency.
Savari’s cloud solution can be integrated into cities current traffic management systems (TMC) and provide real-time information and automatic decisions regarding a city’s mobility.
